SIGLA has been working for several years in Power Line Inspection projects within Framework Agreements with largest utility companies in Latin America, in High, Mid and Low voltage grids, implying different scenarios of data acquisition.
Power line inspection is a critical process to ensure the safe and reliable operation of electrical transmission and distribution systems. It involves a thorough examination of power lines, towers, and related infrastructure to identify potential issues, such as:
- Structural damage: Cracks, corrosion, or wear and tear on towers, poles, and hardware.
- Conductor issues: Sagging, broken wires, corrosion, or foreign object attachment.
- Insulator problems: Contamination, cracks, or damage.
- Vegetation encroachment: Trees or other plants growing too close to power lines.
- Hardware failures: Loose or damaged connectors, clamps, and other components.
We mainly use helicopters that are very useful to acquire massive quantities of data inspections. They can be used for inspections in remote or inaccessible areas or nationwide projects. They are equipped with high-resolution cameras and sensors can capture detailed imagery of power lines, allowing for rapid and comprehensive assessments.
We can also use in certain cases, drones and terrestrial vehicles for other types of tasks such as telematic inventories.
This activity is essential for:
- Public safety: Preventing power outages and hazards caused by equipment failures.
- Reliability: Ensuring consistent electricity delivery to customers.
- Asset management: Optimizing maintenance and repair schedules (predictive maintenance).
- Compliance: Meeting regulatory requirements and industry standards.
By identifying and addressing potential problems early on, power line inspections help utilities maintain a safe and reliable power grid.
